We turn pages into the winter season for the next few weeks as more cold air pushes in from the northwest. The cold air also brings the chances of snow. I'll discuss all the chances in the next few days below.
I noticed when I went into the gym around 5:20 this evening temperatures were dropping rapidly with the cold front on top of the area and once I got out around 7:00, IT WAS SNOWING!!! Unbelievable weather we have here in the Ohio Valley, RIGHT?? Now let's get on with the forecast.
Snow chances are possible later tonight as some of the coldier air filters in. I think a few breif snow showers could be possible for portions of the area. Expecially areas north and east of the Louisville Metro area. Madison, Seymour, Cincinnati, Vevay and Osgood have the best chance to see a light coating of snow on the grass by morning. Below is a look at our short range model called the HRRR. It does a good job pointing out the scattering of these snow showers/flurries.
Not all locations will see a dusting in these areas but a few locations could get suprised by morning. Watch out for a few slick spots during the commute because of some left over moisture on the roadways. Nothing to major.
The next system moves in during the later afternoon hours tomorrow and through tomorrow night. Accumulations will be light but it could cause a few problems for the commute on Friday morning. We will watch that carefully. Notice the NAM moving the clipper in and bringing light amounts of moisture in the area.
I do think once again the best chances for an inch of snow would be areas along and east of I-65. Just make sure to stay tuned for the latest delays and closing Friday morning. I would suspect a few.
The final system I will talk about this evening will move into the area during Saturday Afternoon. Right now models are a little uncertain on how much to expect and where the heavier moisture will be. Right now, I think the bulk of the moisture will be south and west of our coverage area. However, the NAM is showing light snow moving in during the afternoon hours on Saturday.
Accumulations look to be around an inch of snow area wide but some of the models have been hinting at higher amounts but this would be a localized situation. Something to watch closely over the coming days.
More systems lure in the forecast early next week but I will not get to detailed with those just yet. Let's continue to watch these few little clipper systems over the coming days and see what they bring.
