If you think the weather has been crazy around here, get a load of this! Sydney, Australia hit a record high of 114.4 Fahrenheit today. That smashed the old record of 113.54!!
Quite simply, Sydney is melting today,” said Corey Watts, regional projects manager at the Climate Institute, on Thursday.
“This kind of weather cannot be taken lightly. These heat waves can have serious impacts on human health and wellbeing.”
Over 80 fires continue over portions of South Australia causing widespread damage and continues to grow with the record heat.
Local Weather
There are a few chances of snow over the next week or so, in which I will point out.
Below is the 500mb Vorticity, showing the strong push of cold air moving into the region Monday. We have been advertising this for almost a week to two weeks now and it's finally right around the corner.
Looking over some of the data this evening, I feel confident a few snow showers/flurries will be possible with this strong push of cold air moving into the region. With this type of setup, we could see a few snow squalls that would produce a burst of heavy snowfall and gusty winds. Visibilities would be low at times. I'll continue to monitor this and adjust the forecast. A dusting to MAYBE a 1/4" of an inch at best in these type of situations.
Tuesday/Wednesday, will begin to warm back up and models have been showing a chance of showers/mix precipitation over portions of Indiana. Types of precipitation still in question. Right now I would lean more to a mix.
More cold air will begin to push in by next weekend and there is another storm system brewing. This one needs to be watched. Models have waffled this system everywhere. (which is normal this far out) Stay tuned for more on this system!
For those who are ready for spring... Only 59 more days! Have you noticed that the days are getting longer? I did a little bit of research this evening and found an interesting graph to show the increasing of daylight by day. Click here to check it out! 10+ hours of sunlight are sooner than you think!
